The Minack Theatre

The Minack Theatre is a remarkable open-air theatre perched on cliffs overlooking the stunning Porthcurno Bay. Its history is a testament to the vision and dedication of one woman, Rowena Cade. In the 1930s, Cade, along with the help of her gardener and local craftsmen, began to carve this extraordinary theatre out of the rugged granite landscape. Over decades, she meticulously constructed terraces, seating, and a stage, creating a venue that harmonizes beautifully with its natural surroundings. The Minack Theatre hosted its first performance in 1932, and has earnt it's place s a cultural gem in west Cornwall.

The stunning location alone is worth the trip, with panoramic views of the azure sea, golden beaches, and dramatic cliffs that create a breathtaking backdrop for performances. If you want to see a performance, the season typically runs from May to September, with a diverse range of productions from Shakespearean plays and musicals to contemporary dramas and concerts. Book in advance if you want to take in a show.

You can explore the site during the day as well. The beautifully landscaped gardens, lovingly tended to by the Minack's gardening team, provide a tranquil setting for a leisurely stroll. The Rowena Cade Exhibition Center offers insights into the theatre's history and the life of its visionary creator.
